We have stayed in Castleton a few times but this was the first time in the Peak and we will definitely be returning. We booked the week before for a Sunday and Monday night at £65 a night which is more than reasonable. Although we thought we had booked for bed and breakfast, this turned out not to be the case which could have been clear when booking but wasn't an issue as there are plenty of local cafes etc. The room itself was a good size as was the bathroom. The four poster bed was extremely comfortable and the is very little noise at night. We ate in the pub the first night and the food was excellent, good value and good portion sizes. The pub is decorated in a quirky way which gives it a very individual feel. The staff were very helpful, attentive and friendly. Good range of beers and was actually persuaded into having my first gin for over 30 years from their extensive range. As we visit Castleton regularly, we will definitely be returning.

My partner and I stayed here for a couple of nights in between Christmas and new year. The room we stayed in was beautifully decorated it had a real homely feel to it. The only bad point would be the bed- every time we tuned over in the night it made a squeaky noise that woke us up. The pub was lovely and quaint - exactly what we were looking for. I've read some mixed reviews about the food but we really enjoyed it. I think people need to understand this isn't a 5 star restaurant- it offers classic pub grub and does it very well. The service was good. On one of the nights we stayed for the pub quiz and were all offers free chip butties in the break which we thought was a nice touch. There was also a good selection of cask ales and whiskeys. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would recommen
On a geocaching/dog walking outing in this glorious area. Parked opposite this pub at lunchtime (you get parking fee refunded if you spend over £10). Inside it is a delight of candlelit corners and fun, quirky decor including a skeleton guarding the piano. Quiet efficient friendly service. Hot tasty food-we had soup and paninis. Dogs (well behaved) welcome. Average prices. Loved the atmosphere. Decor kept the conversation flowing.

Popped in for a quick lunch before a walk round Castleton, with family and two spaniels. Really impressed with this traditional pub that has great quirky touches (skeleton sitting at the piano, paintings on the ceiling). Greeted by the friendly and professional barman. Nice selection of ales, gins and a good food menu. Food service was really quick, was tasty, served piping hot and really exceeded our expectations in terms of quality. Dog friendly, cosy, lots of seating, interesting decor in every corner, parking reimbursed, don't think twice, this is the place!
